PRAYER
(SALAH)
1. Meaning and Blessings of
Prayer
The Five Pillars of Islam
are:
(1)
Faith (Iman)
(2)
Prayer (Salah)
(3)
Fasting (Swaum)
(4)
Poor-due
(Zakat)
(5)
Pilgrimage (Hajj)
These are the Five Pillars
and foundation of Islam. It is obligatory upon all
Muslims to perform these obligatory acts in their
lifetime.
¡§When you have finished
Prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting down and
lying down on your sides, but when you are free from
danger, perform Prayer. Verily the Prayer is
enjoined on the believers at fixed hours.¡¨
¡i4¡G103¡j
The Holy Qur'an expressly
tells us the meaning and blessings of Prayer:
1. Prayer is obligatory ¡V¡i2¡G238¡A
4¡G103¡j
2.
The five
daily prayers remind a Muslim to remember Allah
constantly ¡V¡i2¡G152;
20¡G14¡j
3.
A Muslim
should seek help from Allah through prayers ¡V¡i2¡G45,
153, 186¡j
4.
Prayer
can keep one away from evil and misconduct ¡V¡i11¡G114;
29¡G45¡j
5.
Allah
will reward you for prayer ¡V¡i7¡G170;
17¡G79¡j
There are many advantages of
performing prayers; a Muslim must put aside his work
to praise and remember Allah in his prayers. We
pray to Allah to help us to become a kind and
righteous person and to bear witness that there is
no god but Allah; and that Prophet Muhammed is His
messenger. One who observes prayers regularly shall
attain a feeling of being more dedicated to Islam
and a sense of peace of mind, knowing what is right
and wrong in his actions, and keep himself from
going astray.
Performing the five daily
prayers with the actions and postures is similar to
doing light exercise, which is also good for our
health. It also trains us to be punctual.
Praying in a
congregation line, shoulder to shoulder, will
give us a sense of brotherhood and togetherness,
cultivating a sense of social responsibility,
community spirit and discipline in thoughts and
actions. Before Allah, all Muslims are equal
regardless of one¡¦s nationality, race, social
status, sex, age, etc. In other words, praying
shall elevate and sustain the perfection of life
both for the individual and group.

When you proclaim your call to
prayer they take it (but) as
mockery and sport; that is
because they are people without
understanding.¡i5¡G58¡j
