(5) Prostration due to mistakes in prayer

It¡¦s normal to make mistakes. During prayers if you make wrong actions, or make errors in reciting the Holy Qur¡¦an, or miss important sentences, you can remedy your errors by prostrating twice. You should recite ¡§Tashahud¡¨ and ¡§Kalima-shahadah¡¨ after you make the last prostration following the normal prayer, and then turn your head to the right, eying the right shoulder, recite ¡§Taslim¡¨, prostrate twice (recite the same declaration of praise as in normal prayers), sit back to recite ¡§Tashahud¡¨, ¡§Kalima-shahadah¡¨, and ¡§Darud¡¨, and at last turn your head to the right, recite ¡§Taslim¡¨, and then turn to the left, recite ¡§Taslim¡¨.

(6) Congregation prayer

Whenever performing Fardh, perform in congregation if there is more than one person. It is encouraged to pray in the mosque, because the mosque is the place where Muslims rally, and where we can pray together with others.

       Array in congregation prayer

When praying collectively, the sagest who knows the most about and abides the Quran and the Prophet¡¦s Instructions should be selected as the prayer leader. He should stand at the middle in front of the congregation, and those who are behind him should stand in a line shoulder by shoulder, with no gap left between people, and nobody should stand behind as a single person line. If women are present, they should stand behind men.

If only two people pray, the leader should stand in front of the follower to the latter¡¦s left. If a third person or more join the prayer, the leader can step forward to let the new comers line up with the original follower, or the original follower can step backward to align the new comers, while with both ways the leader should stand at the front. When only women with no men perform the prayer, they are free to choose praying in congregation or individually (for Fardh). If they pray in congregation, the leader dose not have to stand at the front but just to stand in the middle of the first line.

Join the congregation prayer after it begins

Sometimes when we arrive at the mosque, the congregation prayer has started, we should join in the prayer as soon as possible. No matter which action is performed when we join, we should follow the same action as others. Remember that if we are able to complete the bow and later actions, that rakaat is valid, otherwise we should make up the missed rakaats after the congregation prayer ends. For example, if the congregation prayer is the Zuhr, and when we join the prayer the others are prostrating the first time for the third Fardh rakaat, we should immediately kneel down to prostrate as the others, and follow the leader for all the later actions, until turning the right to say ¡§Taslim¡¨, we don¡¦t need to follow the leader any more. When the leader and others turn to the left to say ¡§Taslim¡¨, we should stand up to continue the missed rakaats by ourselves. Since we joined the prayer at the first prostration of the third rakaat, that means we didn¡¦t complete the bow of that rakaat, and so that rakaat is invalid. For us, the new comers, only the forth rakaat is valid. Therefore we should make up the third rakaat by ourselves. After making up one rakaat, we should sit back, and then stand up to make up the other two rakaats.

The reminder to the leader who makes mistakes

Although the leader is sage, it is understandable that he may make mistakes, and so sometimes errors occur in leading the prayer. When that happens, the followers should not follow the errors, but should say the following to remind the leader (woman followers can clap hands as a reminder):

Subhaa--nal lah

Glory to Allah, the Great.

The leader should correct the mistake immediately after hearing the reminder, and should prostrate twice before the end of the prayer as compensation.
